Fogg's Updated 3D Printing Capabilities

November 14, 2022 - Fogg Filler, a market leader in the design and manufacture of rotary filling systems for the liquids industry, is continually focused on improving technology that better serves our customers and the environment. Fogg has recently upgraded its 3D printing capabilities to include the most up-to-date technology available.
The largest area of opportunity for 3D printing within Fogg is for testing parts. Fogg uses 3D printing to test parts such as back pockets, nozzles, vent tubes, and valves. Instead of machining prototypes out of stainless-steel, rapid prototyping saves production time while achieving a dimensionally accurate product. This results in time and cost savings to allow for a quicker lead time for customers, speeding up the entire process from design to production.
Fogg has a total of four 3D printers in their state-of-the-art printing lab. Two of these are Stereolithography (SLA) printers in which the prototype is printed on a build plate and cured by the laser processing unit. This creates a more dimensionally stable result and allows for an incredible surface finish. These printers allow us to print objects that are solid and watertight, which is crucial for testing.
The other 2 new printers are Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). These use a filament of plastic which melts and takes on a new shape. These printers allow us to create prototypes of parts such as back pockets where only dimensional accuracy is required.
These new printers each have a wide range of printing capabilities with the largest having the capability of printing pieces up to 33.5 cm x 20 cm x 30 cm dimensions. These printers can print with a wide range of materials including rubber, nylon, PETG, polycarbonate, ABS, PLA, and IGUS. With this variety of materials, Fogg has countless opportunities to utilize 3D printing.
